“No—I Will Not …”

If I could but turn back the hands of time

reminisce over our melancholy used to be

cogitate love’s demise under our old tree

l would confess with vast ease on a dime

Even though you

want me back…

No—I will not

While your hands flew over the piano keys

with perfect harmony as I sipped fine wine

I remained content to watch your star shine

as for me—the limelight, I elected not to seize

 Even though you

want me back…

No—I will not

I remember the days of living in a fishbowl

as reality will not relinquish its weary hold

time took its toll on my heart, it turned cold

sometimes I ponder if I will again be whole

Even though you

want me back…

No—I will not

I no longer yearn for your touch as back then

since you sought to shatter our beloved vows

as I had no desire to seek you out and arouse

chose to leave my heartbreak behind—amen

Even though you

want me back…

No—I will not

If I could but turn back the hands of time

reminisce over our melancholy used to be

cogitate love’s demise under our old tree

I would confess with vast ease on a dime

Even though you

want me back…

No—I will not
