Some see riches reflected in their eyes
Well, their warped mirror surely lies

My mirror shows a regular guy who
Writes for himself, no riches do I pursue

Don’t get me wrong, it would be nice,
Sort of like the color white on rice,

But I won’t let it be my motivation,
No counting on becoming a scribe sensation

For this writing dude, no, sir, Sally,
Sales are not how I keep a running tally

No, for me, seeing my thoughts in print
Is more important than making a mint

    Hi, Mike,

Were truer words ever written? I know I do not make any money on the books I’ve self-published, but as my hubby tells me, ‘Who cares?’ It is the knowledge that I’ve sent my stories out into the world, AND that I can hold a book in my hand that is Mine!

As always, your poetry doesn’t disappoint,

Right on! Least for me, I write for a hobby. A way to escape reality, is most relaxing with quill in your hand. You can create whatever your mind can conjure up. For now, I self edit, until I need to get some useful reviews.

The motivation for writing? The love of it should be # 1! Sharing with friends is satisfactory for me, I’m an unknown ghost. No Steven King or Steven Spielberg. Is an art to be able to weave words and hon your craft. Write and I will read and listen. We all got our unique voice printed on paper. Well said!

    Hi Mike

I like the way you think in this well put together poem. I actually feel the same way. I mean, if I depended on my poetry to pay the bills and buy the food, I’d be one hungry man with no electricity. So, like you, I just write for fun and if I publish a book some day then that’ll be reward enough.

    No corrections needed. Well done.

    PD

Isn’t this just the right way to look at writing. Sure, some make millions, but for most of us it’s a labor of love and personal achievement.
